Meena has suffered child marriage
At the end of March we rescued a 19-year-old girl who lived on the street. The fictitious name with which we refer to her to protect her identity is Meena. The girl left home fleeing from the mistreatment of her father. After the rescue operation, she entered a shelter home where she will be safe and will begin to rebuild her life. Meena has been relatively lucky, but many other girls live the same way as she did without escaping the horror.
Without going any further in her own house, the situation repeated, since she has two sisters and a brother with functional diversity. It was her house where her nightmare began. Meena was studying and her father, addicted to alcohol, used to beat them a lot, but in addition to this, when she turned 13, she got married to an older man who used to abuse her. To carry out her marriage, her father falsified the girl’s age on her identity document. After a week of true nightmare, she tried to stop the abuse and that attitude was responded with more beatings by the man and her father. Her mother tried to defend her but she was also attacked by them. Finally, considering so much violence, it was Meena’s own father who threw the man out of the house.
Meena could no longer go to school, or barely leave the house but could go only to work. And her father drank all the money that came into the house. One day, the young woman fled and arrived at the Bandra railway station in Mumbai, where she lived in a precarious conditions. It was then when we found out about her case and we started the necessary actions to establish contact with her, and get her off the street so that she would live safely and can continue studying. Meena wishes to have her sisters with her. After some support sessions, Meena has agreed to contact her mother, but she is very afraid of being forced to return to home. At the moment it will not be like that, we will be by her side and we will inform you about her evolution.
