Session in Chheda Nagar to prevent the sexist violence

Promoted Activity on the Occasion of the International Day of the Elimination of the Voilence Against Women

Last November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was celebrated. And this date is followed by sixteen days of activism against sexist violence. This year, the theme of the 16 days is “Invest to prevent violence against women and girls”, focusing on the importance of investing in different prevention strategies to stop violence at its beginning and prevent it.

In the Mumbai Smiles, these actions have been added by organizing a session specific for the mixed couples. An awareness session to eradicate any form of inequality in the couple, since this is the seed of violence. Not only in the relationship, but also in the education offered to sons and daughters. And with this activity we want to continue adding efforts to our action throughout the year to avoid cases of sexist violence and support the women who are experiencing this solution.

Since among our communities the majority of people only have Sunday off, we organized the session last Sunday, December 3, in our Chheda Nagar plot. The participants were the families of the center’s students, who attended the two-hour activity.

The program was especially designed for the awareness session. First, we did some introduction to break the ice, and then a talk covering consolidated concepts and answered doubts and concerns. We reflect on what a society free of all types of violence should be like. And we ended with another interactive session that left everyone with a positive feeling.

It was a very interesting session, and we think that it has opened the door to new forms of participation and, above all, to the male population of our communities losing their fear of participating.
