Red card to the child labour

 In Sensibilización, Trata de personas

World Day Against Child Labour is observed every June 12—a date promoted by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to remind us that millions of children around the world continue to see their most basic rights violated.

“Red card to the child labour”

This year, the international campaign focuses on the urgent need to accelerate action to eradicate child exploitation and ensure a dignified future for children. Under the slogan “Red card to child labour: fair play for children, decent work for adults,” the ILO issues a global call to governments, businesses, and civil society to strengthen social protection, access to education, and the defense of children’s rights.

Although progress has been made in recent decades, the reality remains alarming. Currently, around 138 million children are still engaged in child labour. More than 54 million perform hazardous work that threatens their health, safety, and development.

The child doesn’t work: learns, plays and dreams

Behind every statistic is a human story. Millions of children who should be learning, playing, and growing up in safe environments instead find themselves trapped in networks of exploitation, violence, neglect, and human trafficking.

At Mumbai Smiles, we work tirelessly every day to disrupt these cycles and protect the most vulnerable. Through targeted prevention and active rescue operations, we stand alongside children who have survived extreme risk, guiding them toward a safer present and a brighter future.

We believe every child deserves the freedom to simply be a child. Our initiatives ensure unconditional access to their fundamental rights: education, health, identity or play and leisure.

Child Labor Is Not Always Visible

It hides behind poverty, forced migration, exploitation, and a lack of access to education. That is why fighting it requires far more than just raising awareness—it means taking direct action, providing continuous support, and creating real alternatives.

On this World Day Against Child Labor, we want to remind everyone that no child should bear responsibilities that rob them of their childhood. Childhood is not meant for mere survival; it is a time to grow with rights, proper care, and opportunities.
