 In Mumbai Smiles, Preschool

Mumbai Smiles Foundation believes that growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together

Of the 19 Preschools run by Mumbai Smiles Foundation, four are based out of Vikhroli. Vikhroli, a suburb in the eastern part of the city, is home to one of the largest mangrove forests in Maharashtra.

Mumbai Smiles Foundation chose Vikhroli as one of its target areas because of the large gathering of below poverty families here. Most of the children of the slum-dwellers don’t have access to quality nourishment and education. The 4 Preschool centers in Suryanagar, Vikhroli were established to meet the basic needs – health, education, nutrition and overall well-being of children living in the slums and streets in and around the area.

The preschool centres’ goal is twofold. While the centres continue to work towards the development of the area, particularly holistic growth of children in and around the communities where the preschools are located; the centres also promotes sustainable livelihoods and improved living standards for the preschool teachers who independently run and manage their preschools.

In this way we strive to meet the final objective of any development project, which is to achieve self-sustainability, enhance quality of life, and enable continuity regardless of external financing.
