PROJECTS

CHILD EXPLOITATION
At Mumbai Smiles, we take a holistic approach to combating human exploitation and trafficking. We tackle the problem by starting with prevention, through access to education and by encouraging children and adolescents to stay in school. We also work on intervention, rescuing survivors of exploitation and supporting them in their physical and psychological recovery towards an independent and free life through rehabilitation and social and professional reintegration programs.
Preschool education in Mumbai
This project provides education in preschool centers for boys and girls between 1 and 6 years, sons and daughters of women who are survivors of trafficking or at high risk of being trafficked or exploited for various purposes.
Preschool education in Nepal
In Nepal, since 2026 we have been promoting the Ekata Pathsala preschool center, a school located in the Lalitpur neighborhood, south of Kathmandu.
Access to School
This project provides scholarships and extra-curricular activities to children aged 6-14 years, sons and daughters at risk to become victims of human trafficking in the slums of Mumbai.
Smiling Bus
This project brings basic educational services to girls and boys at risk of being trafficked, through a mobile unit that travels around Mumbai and goes to their communities.
Prevention of human trafficking in rural areas
This project is being implemented in the Satkhira district of Bangladesh. Through this project, we provide information to people in rural communities about the risks of human trafficking networks, primarily those associated with irregular migration for economic reasons.
Rescue of exploitation survivors
This project carries out rescue operations for survivors of trafficking and exploitation, mainly women, young people and underage boys and girls. These operations are coordinated with the authorities at all times.
Udaan Shelter Home
Udaan is a shelter for women survivors of human trafficking. From this space, we facilitate their rehabilitation through various activities and support services. In this safe environment, they also receive skills training to help them reintegrate into the workforce and society.

Pariwartan Social Center
In the Thamel neighborhood of Kathmandu (Nepal), we promote a social, day center, the Pariwartan Social Center, for women in situation of sexual exploitation.

Prevention on gender violence
This project aims to raise awareness about gender violence in the communities where we are present, and to intervene in cases of male chauvinist violence, a serious problem with a high prevalence among the population we work with.

Health
This project promotes access to healthcare for children and their families in the communities we serve. We focus on the health problems that most affect victims of trafficking, such as addiction and sexually transmitted infections.

Emergency actions
This project includes a series of actions whose common objective is to support communities in India, Nepal or Bangladesh in situations of humanitarian emergencies, such as in the case of the COVID-19 pandemic in India, or in natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods or floods in Nepal.
