Bhakti and her new life in Udaan
After the success story of Lalita, who after 3 years in our shelter has rebuilt her life and returned to her family, a new girl has joined the Udaan family. She is Bhakti and wants to get out of sexual exploitation so she can take care of her child and have a decent life.
The story of Bhakti
When Bhakti was 12, she ran away from home. She lived in a very bad home environment with constant fights between her parents. Her father used to drink a lot and both of them used to take out their anger on her. That is why one day she decided to leave home.
She took a train and reached Dadar station. While she was walking around the flower market, a florist helped her and gave her food and water. In the evening, he took her to his wife in the Kamathipura area. She took care of her for a few days. She fed her well and gave her new clothes, but after a very short time she pushed her into prostitution, which she did for more than 6 years. During this time, she married a boy when she was 15 and had her son at 16. While she was pregnant, her husband married another woman and abandoned her.
Since then she has raised her son alone while continuing to be sexually exploited in Kamathipura. Currently, her son is with her and she has joined Udaan to recover and try to rebuild her life and leave prostitution.
At Mumbai Smiles we are going to support her so that she can have a decent future for herself and her son.
