Mumbai Smiles is with Nepal
Heavy and continuous rains that hit Nepal on 27 and 28 September have created a humanitarian crisis in the Asian country. The deadly floods in Nepal have affected more than two million people and affected 72% of the country, including the capital, Kathmandu. This is the most serious flood crisis in Nepal in many years, with more than 200 dead, 100 injured and at least 32 missing in just 48 hours.
The floods and landslides in Nepal have submerged homes and damaged critical infrastructure such as roads and bridges. Many areas, including parts of Kathmandu, have been flooded, forcing residents to move from their homes. The floods have led to a dire need for food, clothing and temporary shelter. In addition, the risk of water-borne diseases adds to the challenges that health workers are facing.
Emergency support from Mumbai Smiles
Mumbai Smiles, together with Chhori, has observed that the aid that arrives tends to underestimate the needs of women and girls. Similarly, pregnant women and nursing mothers who need more nutritious food are not given due attention.
In light of this situation, at Mumbai Smiles we are working to provide specific humanitarian aid materials aimed at women and girls. Thus, in the coming days we will provide nutritious food to pregnant and nursing mothers in the Thamel area, the neighbourhood in which we work. In addition, we will also distribute a hygiene kit containing soap, a water purifier, a water bottle, a towel and a hot water bag. Under garments and reusable cloth pads will also be given to women and teenage girls.
In total, we hope to reach more than 300 women, as well as girls and boys. To help the victims of this emergency and support our campaign, you can collaborate with us with a donation.
