Over a period of a week, the JUMP2justice (J2J) has successfully conducted 15 awareness sessions in the slum areas of Andheri east (where our projects work), for a total of 282 community citizens, on the topic of Right to Education.

Education is the key to development and most of the countries, therefore, invest into educational projects in order to develop and progress. We, at Mumbai Smiles, too, believe that education attacks the root of all problems and therefore it is one of the pivotal weapons to attack poverty.

The said awareness sessions focused on the importance and benefits of Right to Education and were highly interactive in nature. The sessions benefited 204 parents, 14 school principals, 28 women and 36 young boys and girls.

With lot of discussion on difference between literacy & education, definition on education, link between personal development and education as well as barriers in getting education in slum communities and how to handle them using the available government provisions and policies supporting the same, this informative session was received very positively by all those present for the same and many citizens mentioned how they were unaware of the concept of Right to Education before attending this awareness session. We hope, this session helps them become more independent in taking better and informed decisions for themselves as well as their family members!
