Eye Camp at Prajapurpada screens 63 citizens

Life is not challenging enough unless we step out of our comfort zone. At our organisation, we are fighting against poverty to make our world better and more developed. And we are very conscious of the fact that this peaceful struggle is not a comfortable one.

Recently, we decided to take a step outside our comfort zone and conduct a health camp in a community that is not our regular project area.

Prajapurpada is a tribal zone in the Goregaon area of Mumbai (north-western area). An area, which is highly neglected in the fields of education and health, it is neighbouring to our project area of Saibangoda and when we came across Prajapurpada and the need for health intervention here as well, we decided to go ahead with conducting a free eye-checkup camp in this community too.

Despite it not being our project area, we got complete support and received very good cooperation from the community leaders and members. With the support of Doctor Eye Institute and the community members, we were able to set up the free health camp and screen a total of 63 community members. Of these, while 17 citizens were identified with refractive errors (which can be corrected with the use of prescription spectacles), 8 were identified with cataract and 9 other citizens were referred for further checkup and testing since their diagnosis wasn’t clear right then.

The patients of refractive errors and cataract are now in the process of receiving their prescription glasses and free surgeries done. And those referred for further evaluation are also in the process of required tests.

We are very thankful to Doctor Eye Institute for their complete support to us in successfully running this free camp and also to the Prajapurpada community members for their cooperation. The citizens later informed us that this is the first and only health camp that has been organised in their area so far. We are very glad that we could organised this camp and increase the number of our healthy family members, on the road to development and progress to make this city of Mumbai more healthier and happier!
