Mantra of the Day: Good Teacher = Good Student
Any educational process has two levels:
- Outgoing i.e Teachers
- Incoming i.e Students
Hence, we cannot expect a good output from students unless they receive a good quality of education from their teachers. This is where we see the importance of Teachers Training Program. A training where teachers are trained in different methods of imparting education, in ways not just bound by books, but fun activities and other innovative engaging methods as well.
At Mumbai Smiles, we understand this. Our Balwadis help the young tiny children of the select lesser privileged community with basic pre-school education. These are communities, where the parents themselves are not well educated and hence our job does not stop at only teaching the students. We aim at empowering the community and so we train the mothers of this community to become the teachers in the Balwadis as well! This way, when the tiny tots learn something at the Balwadi, they go back home and get to revise that with their mothers, or neighbour-aunties! This way, the children are not only comfortable with their students on a personal level, but even the parents are more welcoming to the idea of sending their child to the Balwadis.
And for this, the Program Officers of the Balwadi Project, periodically hold various training sessions for these community teachers to be able to teach their future generations better.
A four-day workshop is currently being held at the Mumbai Smiles premises by the Balwadi Project, in collaboration with PRATHAM, an NGO working towards the quality of education to the underprivileged communities. The training will focus on four most important aspects of teaching being Syllabus Preparation, Art & Craft, Teaching Methods and Effective Communication Skills.
