World outside the Books

 In Mumbai Smiles, Preschool

All work and no fun isn’t the ideal way for anyone and we believe it shouldn’t be that way for our Balwadi students as well. So, to get the kids to be a part of extracurricular activities, every year Mumbai Smiles organises a Fancy Dress Competition for the kids. This allows us to gain more engagement from the children and also create a fun filled environment where they can grow and prosper into fine adults.

This year, around 750 children participated across all our 28 Balwadis. The theme— Social Activist and Social Life of Community. It’s a day when children come all dressed up into different costumes introducing vibrant colours into their lives. The objective of this is to further motivate the children to regularly attend classes, be a part of healthy competition and create enthusiasm towards learning. Students and parents demonstrated their creativity to the maximum with student’s being dressed in costumes of animals and doctors to mermaids and policemen displaying a wide array of colours and dreams. Towards the end of it, each student is awarded with a gift as a token of participation.

Such activities provide a break for the kids from their usual routine and they thoroughly enjoy it. The glitter in their eyes and excitement in their voices is a proof enough for marking this event as a success. This is one of our ways to encourage the kids to come to the Balwadis and continue with their education which includes learning and loads of fun.
