Balwadi Project’ is designed with the motto of ‘Cultivating Healthy Habits through Education’ in order to address the Educational as well as Health & Nutritional needs of slum children between 1 to 6 years of age. The project is run through 25 Balwadis spread across five different slum areas of Mumbai which have an approximate population of close to half a million. Due to problems of low income and unemployment, the parents are unable to provide pre-school education and proper nutrition to their children. The project helps address these needs along with preventing school drop outs in the future.

This project was started with the objective to facilitate immunization of the Balwadi children and to reduce the malnutrition level among them, thereby improving nutrition as well as attendance in schools.

The Balwadi Project team recently conducted a written as well as oral evaluation of all Teachers and Assistants on 17th April 2015. The team had prepared questionnaire on their day to day activities
and Balwadi action plan with the help of Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, Mr. Amit Dambhare. The questionnaire for Assistants and teachers covered various topics such as spellings, calculation of malnutrition grade, description of balwadi project guidelines and many other general knowledge questions.

The main objective behind carrying out the evaluation was to assess all teachers and Assistants and whether they were following the prescribed guidelines, action plan and rules and regulations of organization to achieve the project goals and objectives. Activities like these help us to plan training programs as per the needs of the teachers.
