Preschool Education Project- Cultivating Healthy Habits through Education

 In Mumbai Smiles

As a run up to Teachers Day this year, a throwback to our flagship project that has shaped teachers into educators and role models for preschool children. Since its inception in 2010, the “Preschool Education Project – Cultivating Healthy habits through Education”, has been addressing the Educational, Health and Nutrition needs of underprivileged children in urban slums.

The first five years of life is critical to early childhood growth and development. In India, many children from underprivileged families rarely get an opportunity to meet their educational needs as parents are illiterate, working, and don’t have adequate resources and space. Without any preschool training and remedial education, children aged 5 years and above are unable to cope with pressures of formal schooling, and subsequently drop out of primary school.

The Preschool Education Project provides every child with an enjoyable learning environment and an opportunity to receive early education through exposure to basic learning methods.

The Preschool Centres is an important foundation for learning and life, where children learn new ideas and new concepts through non-formal preschool education, along with supplementary nutrition, health education and immunization. The program is designed to increase involvement of parents in their child’s progress and educate them in the importance of ensuring holistic development of their children.

The healthy and friendly environment cultivated at the Preschool Centres has enabled children enjoy a sense of belonging, oneness and emotional attachment with their peers and teachers.
