Immunization Camp held for Pregnant Women in Suryanagar

In Awareness, Health, Infectious Diseases, Mumbai Smiles

In a health camp organised for pregnant women of an underprivileged community in Suryanagar, Vikroli (in the central-northern part of Mumbai), the Infectious Diseases and Maternal & Child Health projects came together to provide immunization vaccinations, health talks and fruits to the beneficiaries.

The free health camp was able to reach out to 35 pregnant women of Suryanagar with the aim to provide them with quality check-up of their pregnancy and inform them of the “Pregnancy Aid Scheme” and encourage them to register themselves at the nearest public hospital as soon as possible. The “Pregnancy Aid Scheme” is a government facility by name of Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyaan (that roughly translates to Prime Minister Safe Pregnancy Program) provided for the pregnant women wherein the women can get themselves registered at the nearest public hospital within first three months of their pregnancy. This makes them eligible for free health check-ups, medicines, vaccinations and medical counseling for the duration of their pregnancy, and they also get an amount of Rs. 6000 to take care of their nutritional requirements of dry fruits, fruits etc. And by way of our health, our team members were making the community citizens aware of this scheme so as to help them take advantage of it for their better health.

At the camp, the women were tested for Blood Pressure, Anaemia, Blood Sugar, Hormonal changes (if any imbalance is found) associated with pregnancy as well as an ultrasound was carried out for all to track the development of their fetuses. These women were then given the necessary vaccinations for immunization against various diseases. Individual cases found with any issues were then taken care of separately.

Post the checkup, each of the women were given a personal medical and nutritional counseling, as part of which they were prescribed with nutritional advice in daily diet and medicines were also provided along with some fruits to each one of them.

We wish to thank the Pregnancy Aid Scheme and the team of our doctors, led by Dr. Gawde for their complete support in this camp!
