Honouring Nutrition Week

 In Mumbai Smiles, Project HOPE

Nutrition is very important for growth and all round well being especially for children suffering with cancer. As their immune system is already weak, nutrition for them becomes a necessity to balance their system and cope with the disease. Inversely, nutrition for health also has far reaching implications on development, productivity, economic growth and ultimately national development.

In July, Mumbai Smiles came into partnership with Wadia Hospital with the objective to provide psycho social support and financial assistance to cancer patients of that hospital. To celebrate Nutrition Week, HOPE Project of Mumbai Smiles organised a dry-fruits distribution at Wadia Hospital, Hemato-Onco department. This was done in order to provide nutritional support to cancer patients and help improve their immune system to fight against this deadly disease. Nutrition also helps to curb side effects during and after treatment. As these children belong to underprivileged background, dry fruit is a luxury which they cannot afford and such distribution acted as a boon for them.

A total of 90 packets of dry fruits were distributed to 90 cancer patients (children). The success of this event’s credit goes to the hard work of Mrs. Kavita, Social Worker, Wadia Hospital and Cankid Organisation and of course Mumbai Smiles team members— Supriya Dhumal, Program Officer (HOPE); Samson Coelho, Supervisor and Ridhima Kalra, Communication Coordinator.
