Life Skills Education Program, Part III – Scholarship distribution

Life Skills Education program, which was organized on 31st January 2014 was one of the landmark programs of Mumbai Smiles. Through this program, we embark upon our journey of Life Skills education for the adolescent age group. The initial 3 events viz. Inauguration, a short play on Child labour and a 45 minutes Life Skills session by Ms. Vasanti Godkhindi completely enchanted the audience. However, the scholarship distribution event that followed the session by Ms Vasanti Godkhindi was no less captivating. 21 girls were distributed scholarship for the academic year 2013-14, of whom 6 belonged to the Mapkhan School and Junior College. This was the final such event where scholarship was distributed for academic year 2013-14.Earlier during the year, scholarship was distributed at two such events.

We at Mumbai Smiles aim to improve the lives of disadvantaged girls through an approach that puts girls at the centre of the community development. Currently Mumbai Smiles ensures socioeconomic support to 100 girls from underprivileged background. These girls are rewarded scholarships to continue their education and are monitored continually on their academic progress and routine life.

The year 2013-2014 saw a number of individuals from various organizations such as HDFC, Deloitte, Portescap Idea Cellular and Group M coming forward to support us in our endeavors in this direction. These individuals supported many underprivileged kids by sponsoring their education. Portescap also went to the extent of supporting us financially. We thank every single individual from these organizations who has aided us in our various projects.

Through our girl child education venture, we aim to educate girls since we believe that once the women is educated, she can instill the same values pertaining to importance of education among all her family members, thereby helping in the progress of our society and making it a better place to live in.
