Interview with Cynthia Gerlinger on her visit to Mumbai Smiles

Cynthia Gerlinger, a resident of Spain, visited India in the month of December 2013.One of our team members, Natasha Rolston, got an opportunity to interview her.Following are the excerpts from that interview:

1) Tell us something about yourself and your association- Networking para Mujeres.

My name is Cynthia Gerlinger and I have been working in the world of foundations and NGO’s for many years primarily as a member and then as volunteer both in Spain and internationally. I have always seen women as an agent of change in the society and it is for this reason that I have put my focus on them.

2) What was the idea behind the inception of the association, Networking para Mujeres?

Networking for women arose as a multidisciplinary space made by and for women where the feminine energy is of utmost importance. We are aware that a women from the western world does not have the same opportunities as that of the Indian women, hence our desire is to make contributions for the women of the project SEED of Mumbai Smiles, with the objective of supporting the training and employment of the women in Bombay.

3) How was your experience during your visit to the projects of Mumbai Smiles?

My experience was incredible. I don’t have words to commend your excellent work, done with so much patience, dedication and love for the work that you do. I feel that nobody can remain indifferent after a trip to Mumbai.

4) How did you find the Project SEED? We would also love to know about your gathering with the beneficiaries of the SEED Project.

All the projects of Mumbai Smiles abound with incredible value. The project SEED was a pleasant surprise for me as I saw a drive, strength and courage in the women to transform their reality and thus be able to impact the lives of their families. They have a yearning for a world which is just and equal in the Indian society. I have no doubts that every time there will be more women and that the smiles on their faces-which has taken me to the heart, will create an echo and voice in Mumbai.
