Admission process starts for children from Govandi slum

 In Mumbai Smiles

Starting the admissions process for a new batch of students each year is a very exciting time for us, as we get to help bright young minds start their education. It is also a joyous moment for their families; these children come from deprived backgrounds and live in the slums of Mumbai. For them and their families, education represents their best hope for a better and brighter future.

On 24 September 2018, the Primary Education Project started the admission process to Standard I at the Shendge School located in the Govandi slums. The session was conducted by the school principal, a teacher and three Mumbai Smiles field coordinators. It was attended by about 20 children and their parents. Apart from conducting the formalities related to the admission process, the coordinators and faculty members also helped the parents to understand the scholarship programme, which will help to cover the costs of the children’s education.
