62 screened for Malaria in Bhandup

In Awareness, Health, Infectious Diseases, Mumbai Smiles

The team of Infectious Diseases recently organised a free health camp in one of our project areas in the northern most part of Mumbai called Rajdeep Nagar in Bhandup. The camp was one for general health checkup but also included specific screening for Malaria in the members of the community.

With a total of 62 citizens of this particular slum community where the camp was organised, including 16 males and 46 females, the camp was a success. For those having severe symptoms of malaria, such as fever at particular timing, shivering and sweating with fever, body ache, loss of appetite, weight loss etc., the doctors diverted them for further screening to be done post conclusive reports of their blood. There were also others cases detected of common ailments such as the common cold and flu, but the doctors at the camp took care of the common ailments with prescription medications and the instructions for the dosage to complete the treatment at home.

We wish to thank Dr. Jayant Gawade, Dr. Sushant Surmane and their team of nurses and specialists who made this health camp possible for Rajdeep Nagar and even followed up post the camp with medication and further treatment for those who required the same. We also want to thank the local community leader who helped us with logistical support for the camp.
