The Life Skills Empowerment Program seeks to empower adolescent girls in order to ensure their holistic development. The project also monitors their health by checking their hemoglobin levels regularly and other nutritional deficiencies that could possibly be detected in their adolescence. In order to ensure healthy living, Mumbai Smiles is providing nutritional support for the same under this program. Hence the LSE project, on the 22nd and 23rd December 2014, organized a health camp the Life Skills Empowerment beneficiaries in the Marol Pipeline area.

The girls are provided with nutritional support every week during the sessions. One such session was conducted recently in the form of a Health Camp for girls. The camp was conducted on the 22nd December and 23rd December at Marol Pipeline Community ground. 75 girls were tested on the first day – 25 from the Centre 1 (Balwadi) and 50 from Centre 2 (Pragatik School) and 20 were tested at Sisters Adorer’s on the second day.

At the camp, a regular health check-up was carried out, along with testing for hemoglobin level. The girls were counselled by a team of doctors and were provided with iron, multi-vitamin, calcium tablets and sanitary napkins.

The camp was conducted by FPAI (Family Planning Association of India) and its team of doctors/counselors. The camps will be organised thrice during the project period in order to monitor the progress of girls.

Overall, the entire camp was a success and we were able to reach out to 90 beneficiaries. We look forward to organised similar such camps in future for our beneficiaries.
