Social Justice Day

 In Mumbai Smiles

This short documentary is a window to the slums of Bombay open in 2012. This initiative of NGO Mumbai Smiles was produced together with ESCAC and their filmmakers Anna Casals and Chema Garcia as a result of the competition “Llums, càmera, acció contra la pobresa”. (Slums, Camera, Action against Poverty)

We introduced through witnesses, Mumbai Smiles-India team members, partner local authorities, and beneficiaries of the Projects, explaining the reality of a city of twenty million people where more than 60% of the population live in slums and suffer systematic violations of the Fundamental Human Rights.

The Indian metropolis is full of colours, smells and diversity but also of contrasts. It is through the lens of the projects promoted with communities closer to their reality playing key issues such as education, work and inequality of opportunity.

The Foundation has ten years and counting, working in the area of Andheri East pushing projects in education, health and economic development. It has more than 7,000 beneficiaries who are also the engine for social transformation towards a Mumbai free of poverty where human rights are respected.
