Republic Day, as we all proudly celebrate it as Indians, was a day 66 years back, on which the Constitution of India was adopted. It is important that the history stays alive for several years to come so that we continue to learn from it and value what our ancestors have earned for us.

At Mumbai Smiles the spirit of pride was held by every member from the most naive balwadi child to visionary the Executive Director. Mr. Narendra Kumar, EDI visited St. Rock’s School as the Chief Guest for the Republic Day flag hoisting. St. Rock’s is one of our partner schools. He guided the students and distributed prizes for the various competitions held for the children. He spoke about the importance of education to them highlighting four key100_9867 aspects of learning being a continuous process, punctuality, integrity and gender sensitivity. He further spoke about being responsible for the choices one makes and standing up for your own rights. Similarly the Balwadi kids, for the first time celebrated the Republic day with the zeal and zest of their parents and other community members. More than 600 students participated in the celebrations. The local social workers addressed the gathering. Sunil Kharate, one of the social workers said that “Children are the future of this country. Teach them to build a stronger nation. Mumbai Smiles’ Balwadis, in our community serve that purpose very well.”

Moreover, HOPE beneficiaries got a chance to display their art skills at the Drawing Competition organized by CPAA(Cancer Patients Aid  Association) in Andheri Sports club. More than 300 children participated in the competition. It was a great accomplishment for one of our HOPE beneficiaries Nikunj who was awarded first prize for his art work. The event was conducted in the presence of the Bollywood actress Sunny Leone. During and after the event she interacted with our beneficiaries and danced with them.

Republic Day was indeed celebrated with great pride, achievements and joy and enlightened the spirit to never give up among all our beneficiaries.
