Sunita Gade: the SEED of new life

The 10th year celebration of Mumbai Smiles began with an opening ceremony at Holy Spirit Hospital on the 6th April. In the week that followed, Mumbai Smiles celebrated the joy of completing 10 years with its true heroes who make Mumbai Smiles and with whom Mumbai Smiles really works. The 7th of April marked the celebrations in the Marol pipeline community area where the beneficiaries gathered in huge numbers to participate in the events. The President Founder of Mumbai Smiles, Mr. Jaume Sanllorente and Executive Director India, Mr. Narendra Kumar Dundu inaugurated the event.
The section that was most precious to the journey and celebrations of Mumbai Smiles was the one where five of its beneficiaries shared their experiences with the people. Their journeys were unique in their own ways and made a difference to who they are and where they have reached. The story of Sunita Gade is one such. Being one of the SEED beneficiaries from the Beauty culture course she shares how her life
changed after joining the course.

“The drama that we saw just now about women’s status in society very well conveyed that women are no less than anyone in the society. Even I was just an ordinary woman. I didn’t know of many things outside the house. The financial condition at home was always little difficult. I always used to think if I can do something after getting some training. So I can help my family and support my children’s education. That time I came to know about Mumbai Smiles and their SEED project that they give training to women on various courses like beauty parlor, craft and cooking. They train and encourage women to get employed. Then I contacted Mumbai Smiles and joined their beauty culture course. As a result of doing that course my household’s financial situation drastically changed. Today run a beauty parlor at home. I have many clients coming to me from the neighborhood, my friend circle etc and through this I earn some good money which then helps us support the household and children’s education. In fact, if I want to buy something I don’t need to ask my husband for money I can us my own money. The family is of both of us, so we both need to work on it. I feel extremely proud about who I am today. I am very thankful to their efforts to take me where I am today.”
