On 26th November 2014, a Diabetic retinopathy and Eye Checkup camp was organised in the Suryanagar area in Vikhroli in collaboration with Aditya Jyot foundation. The objective of this event was to distribute free spectacles to beneficiaries with refractive errors. 62 beneficiaries were detected with Refractive errors and were distributed spectacles free of cost. Yasmin Sheikh (Social worker, Sister, Aditya Jyot Foundation), Dattatray (optician, Aditya jyot foundation), Suresh Harke (Balwadi field coordinator) and Supriya Dhumal coordinated the various activities at the event.

The eye and health care project of Mumbai Smiles provides eye/health care screening & treatment facilities to the underprivileged communities. The project aims to increase awareness and improve access to eye/health care services.

Mumbai Smiles has successfully carried out 20 camps for eye check-up in partnership with Haji Bacchu Ali Eye Hospital, Vision Foundation of India and Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital. Till now, a total of 4113 general beneficiaries and 1612 children have been screened for refractive errors, cataract and other treatable eye diseases. Of the patients screened, 55 cataract surgeries have been successfully completed and 820 spectacles have been distributed among adults and children.

We hope to continue to organize similar such distribution camps in future.
