The Eye and Health Care project at Mumbai Smiles regularly organizes eye camps for detecting eye disorders and also for providing spectacles to correct refractive errors among patients. Refractive errors occur when the shape of the eye prevents light from focusing directly on the retina. The length of the eyeball (longer or shorter), changes in the shape of the cornea, or aging of the lens are possible causes of refractive errors. One such camp was recently held at Sundrabai School on 17th April 2015 where beneficiaries were provided with spectacles to treat their refractive errors. The objective of the camp was to spread awareness regarding eye disorders and its early detection among children and to detect refractive errors among children and distribute free spectacles accordingly.

Earlier a camp was organized on 17th and 19th March 2015 with the collaboration of Aditya jyot Hospital where 376 children were screened and 37 were detected with refractive errors.

As a follow up exercise, spectacles were distributed on 17th April 2015 among school children who were detected with refractive errors during the earlier camp. During this event, The Principal of School, Mr. Mulik gave introduction about Mumbai smiles and also how the school is also a direct beneficiary of future smiles project too.

It is through such exercises that Mumbai Smiles is helping the disadvantaged sections of society in the field of healthcare. Before this, many more events of spectacle distribution and eye checkup camps have been organized.
