Mumbai Smiles Celebrates Universal Human Rights Day

 In Mumbai Smiles

Date- 10th December, 2015

Venue- Hotel Silver Inn, Marol Naka

To honour and acknowledge the Universal Human Rights Day, Mumbai Smiles organised an event for its beneficiaries from various projects. The main objective of this event was to make the youth aware about their Human Rights and encourage them to Speak Up!

The Chief Guest for this event was Advocate Mrunalini Deshmukh. A woman who has earned immense respect and success in her field and having her at the event just made it even more special.

1The event started off with an introduction by Natasha Rolston, Project Coordinator- New Glances and Awareness. She invited the audience to the event and gave a brief on Mumbai Smiles. This was followed by a welcome speech by Dr.Nirmal Ahuja, Unit Head- Health and Nutrition; wherein he  invited the Chief Guest on the stage to be felicitated by one of our LSE girl beneficiary Pranali Chavan.

Post this; we showcased a video  survey that we conducted a survey amongst the masses of every strata. This video allowed us to witness that almost everybody from educated to underprivileged were unaware about what human rights are. The results astonished us and we realised the importance of holding this event. This video was curated by Sachin Kokitkar.

3The highlight of the event was the incredible and easily understandable speech by Advocate Mrunalini Deshmukh. She spoke to the youth about not just the importance of exercising one’s Human Rights but also Fundamental Duties. Her talk was inspiring and her connect with the audience; impeccable.

4We had also created a ‘Free Expression Wall’ which was later open to the audience to come forward and write a comment on it based on what they learned, what they thought about the event or what they feel in general about Human Rights. The inauguration of this wall was also done  by our Chief Guest.

All in all, the event was a success. The speech by Advocate Mrunalini Deshmukh was the highlight of the event. She spoke with such ease and using lay man’s terms so that the youth didn’t get caught up on the technicalities but actually understand the true meaning of Human Rights.

Also, the hard work and outstanding coordination among the team of Mumbai Smiles is what brought this event to its triumph.
