Education on life skills plays a vital role for students in the 21st century, particularly for disadvantaged youth. The Life Skills Empowerment module developed by Mumbai Smiles provides learning beyond formal education, and training in skills needed to survive in the real world.

Mayuri Lad, a 6th standard student from Samta Vidyamandir school is currently living with her mother and siblings in Vikhroli. A young girl living with physical disability and without her father’s support, is presently the woman of her house – taking responsibility for her household when her mom is at work! She also studies by herself without support from private tuitions.

Mayuri’s story, is a remarkable narrative of how a child has transformed into a responsible member of her household – especially after the sudden demise of her dad last year. This was made possible through the LSE program that has helped her tackle problems, become independent and self-aware about herself as an individual and the community she belongs to.

Mayuri’s goal is to become a teacher and an educator for poor children from her community so that she can become a pillar of support for those in need. We wish her all the best for her future!
