LSE beneficiaries get exposure to functions of a hospital

Women play a vital role in the all-round progress of a country. They are the real builders of happy homes. They are the first teachers of children. Hence, if mothers are well-educated, they can play an important role in shaping the values of their children. Their education should be such as may enable them to discharge their duties in a proper way. Educated women are well aware of their duties and rights. They can contribute to the development of the country in the same way as men do.

The Girl Child Education and Life Skills Empowerment programs at Mumbai Smiles look forward to achieve the same. The Life Skills empowerment program caters to the adolescent girls in the age group of 12 to 19 yrs. The beneficiaries under this program are provided information on Life skills, health, nutrition, education and many more such subjects, which would benefit them in the long run.

On 27th January, we planned an exposure visit to Holy Spirit Hospital for our LSE beneficiaries. The objective of this visit was to educate the girls about the functions of a hospital and about various health services that they can avail at the hospital. During the visit, the beneficiaries gathered knowledge about first – aid, hospital admission procedures and also became aware of various schemes that the underprivileged can avail.

Sister Veronica from Holy Spirit Hospital made the beneficiaries aware of various diseases that she comes across on a regular basis. She also discussed home remedies for burns, cuts, cough, cold and various first-aid methods. With patience and enthusiasm, she also cleared all their doubts about personal health. The girls explored the entire Hospital premises and learned about the working of each department more clearly. The girls too demonstrated immense enthusiasm and asked relevant questions while exploring each department.

The visit certainly helped the beneficiaries gain perspective on working of a hospital and they are now in a much better position to utilize the facilities of a hospital in the most efficient manner.
