On 31st of January 2014, Mumbai Smiles organized an event on Life Skills Education: Clarity on Thought and Knowledge. The event was held at one of our partner schools- Mapkhan School and Jr. College of Arts and Science, Andheri East. A strong control over ones choices and behaviour is imperative to combat life’s various challenges. With this objective, we launched our first such initiative for 100 children of the Mapkhan School.

Mrs Kiran Mehra-Kerpelman, the Director of the UNIC India and Bhutan, was our chief guest for the day. Other guests who graced the occasion were:

  • Mrs Mohini Mathur – The Executive Chairperson of Maharashtra United Nations Association (MUNA) and Vice President of Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA), New Delhi
  • Mr Ashraf Ahmed Shaikh – Hon. Secretary and Founder President of Maharashtra United Nations Youth Association (MUNYA)
  • Mr A.A Syed, Secretary General, Maharashtra United Nations Association, (MUNA) and Secretary, Indian Federation of United Nations Associations, (IFUNA), New Delhi.
  • Trustees of Mapkhan School  – Mr Mapkhan, Mr. Sayed
  • Mr. Narendra Kumar Dundu, the Director of Mumbai Smiles

Mr. Dundu elucidated that how the work carried out by the organization since 2007 in 4 major slum areas of Andheri East has had a positive impact on 30,000 families in these slums. The event began with an opening prayer in Urdu by one of the students of the school, followed by an astounding, prize-winning performance by a group of students on Child Labour, which truly left an indelible impression on the minds of the audience.

Post the inauguration, a life skills session, scholarship distribution and certificate distribution program were held. Watch out for the these events in our upcoming blogs !!
