Jump2Justice conducts awareness session on child rights

 In Mumbai Smiles

The first step towards exercise of one’s rights is to be aware of those rights. This is why we learn about our Constitutional rights when we are in school. However, the underprivileged people in our society often do not have access to quality education and are, therefore, left unaware of their own rights. This is particularly true for underprivileged children. The concepts of human rights and children’s rights need to be disseminated among the deprived sections of society, so that they are aware of their rights and can protect themselves from exploitation.

Recently, the Jump2Justice project conducted a session for this very purpose—to generate awareness about human rights and child rights in the slum community. An interactive session was conducted for the parents of slum children, where they were educated about the concepts of human rights, child rights, and how to prevent and address violations of those rights. The parents found the session very useful; they will definitely be more aware and alert to ensure that their children’s rights are not violated.
