Diabetic Retinopathy and Eye Checkup camp organised at St. Rocks School
On 28th March 2015, a Diabetic Retinopathy and Eye Checkup camp was organized at St. Rocks School, Makwana Road, Tak Pada Andheri E. The objective of the event was to spread awareness about eye disorders and early detection among community members, and to carry out free cataract surgery for the members.
The camp was organized by Mumbai Smiles in collaboration with Saprem and Aditya Jyot Foundation at St.Rocks School Makwana road Tak Pada. Overall 70 people were screened and 45 were detected with refractive errors. 14 were identified with cataract and 6 were recommended for further evaluation.
The St. Rocks School trustee team provided us with class rooms and two office assistants to coordinate the various activities at the camp.
This was the first time that such a camp was organized in this community. Community members were extremely delighted and encouraged us to organise similar such camps in future.
Spectacles distribution is in process and further investigation of patients shall take place soon.
