Deloitte collaborates with Mumbai Smiles to organize a dental, ENT, eye & skin screening camp

On 29th November 2013, Mumbai Smiles in collaboration with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Pvt. Limited organized a one day Eye, Dental, ENT & Skin screening camp at Marol Pragatik School, Andheri. The Eye camp was organized in collaboration with Adtiya Jyot Foundation and the Dental Camp was conducted in association with Dr. Kunal Oswal, a practicing Public Health Dentist, along with other doctors, from Terna Dental College, Navi-Mumbai. The Skin and ENT camps were carried out in collaboration with doctors from MGM Medical College, Kharghar, Navi-Mumbai.

Initially, the Futures Smiles team had visited the slum of Kadamwadi at Marol, Andheri East, intending to identify students for the scholarship program from Marol Pragatik School. The children studying in this school reside in the nearby slum areas. However, after random observation and interaction with the teachers, the team instead realized that many of the children have some kind of refractive errors, dental problems, Skin ailments and ENT problems. Consequently, the team concluded that it would be more beneficial if an Eye, Dental, ENT and Skin Screening Camp were organized instead, especially for the 563 Secondary School Children from the 7th to 10th standard. Finally, after a meeting with the principal and children, an Eye, Dental, ENT and Skin camp was arranged for the children.

The Camp activities were carried out within the school premises itself. Students were required to fill up a registration form. Members of Deloitte team and the school teachers coordinated the various activities of the event such as screening and monitoring the students etc. Screening was done for each of the 563 children. Meanwhile, Deloitte participants educated the students about oral and health hygiene. As a small gesture, they also distributed pamphlets, tooth paste and snacks to the children.  Around 700 Students were screened at the camp.

In the end – post the screening and check up, certificates were distributed to the doctors by Mumbai smiles’ EDI Narendra Kumar,and School Principal Mansi Chalke.
