Tara is a travel enthusiast from Ireland. She has travelled many countries and her passion for improving the lives of children through education gives her the energy and the determination to teach in schools around the world which brought her to Mumbai Smiles where she sponsored a training program for the Balwadi teachers. Read on to know more about her experience:

“The school teachers are very enthusiastic, eager to learn, having lots of fun, taking part in the activities. Everyone wants to learn in a fun way, and enjoy learning that way. So they can teach that way to the children. It is more effective to teach the teachers, as it has a long term impact. I like that the teachers are from the community itself, it is highly impactful and it makes them care for the children. They have their own and their friends children attending the Balwadis”

“I teach in Ireland, I teach in a small town. The money for funding the training material and program has come from 4 schools, the children conducted fund raising activities to raise money for India. The Irish children were educated on the state of education in India for the underprivileged. The school children in Ireland are given pictures and are given feedback on the work done in India and where their funds are utilized.”

“I’d like to see a big change in the education system, there should be no learning by mugging up, children should want to ask questions and the teachers must encourage they children to think, discover and then learn by asking questions. There is no exact answer to a question; learning together must be the motto.”

The cultural exchange between India and Ireland enabled by Tara along with her determination to improve the learning abilities of children is truly inspiring.
