The SEED project team of Mumbai Smiles organized an advanced beauty training course for women during October –November 2013. SEED, a skills development program of Mumbai Smiles, aims to equip women and girls from low-income backgrounds with tangible, marketable skills that can help them earn a proper livelihood.

This was the second time that such a training program was organized. The first batch was organized in the month of May. In this program, women from underprivileged background are trained in various beauty techniques such as rebonding and straightening of hair, haircut etc. 55 candidates were enrolled and trained in this batch. The timing of the batch was flexible. The sessions, held for 2 hours daily for 50 days, were generally conducted in the afternoon since women are occupied with their household work in the 1st half.

Initially, the field coordinators apprise the women about the training program. Subsequently, the interested women coordinate with the Mumbai Smiles team. As a part of screening process, women are requested to furnish their Ration Card, which provides all the requisite information about them. Women residing near Marol Pipeline area were specifically informed about this training course.

Trainers in the course are generally people who are in contact with Field coordinators, or are consultants who have worked with Mumbai Smiles in a previous such engagement.
