National Girl Child Day

 In Mumbai Smiles

27 jan I

National girl child day is observed every year on 24th of January. It is celebrated to increase awareness among people regarding various inequalities faced by the girl child in the society. Girl child inequality is a vast problem, especially in areas such as education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, protection, honour, child marriage etc.

Mumbai Smiles’ endeavors for promoting the Girl Child Education were deliberately mapped out for the slum areas of Andheri – East, Mumbai, where enrolment of girl child, retention and completion of education are comparatively low. Our efforts tend to reduce the disparity in education between male and female children in these areas. We at Mumbai Smiles aim to improve the lives of disadvantaged girls through an approach that puts girls at the centre of the community development. Our efforts help them access basic rights to proper health care, education and healthy environment, thereby protecting them from abuse and exploitation and strengthening their participation in decisions that affect their lives. Currently Mumbai Smiles ensures socioeconomic support to 100 girls from underprivileged background. These girls are rewarded scholarships to continue their education and are monitored continually on their academic progress and routine life.

We at Mumbai Smiles are extremely elated to celebrate the ‘National Girl child Day’ and through our endeavors, further hope to eliminate the social discriminations and exploitations that girls generally face.
