Mumbai Smiles and Aditya Jyot Foundation organize eye care checkup camp

On 23rd December 2013, Mumbai Smiles in collaboration with Aditya Jyot Foundation organized a Diabetic retinopathy and Eye care checkup camp for Diabetic patients at Balwadi No.15, Phule Nagar, Powai.

Aditya Jyot Foundation for Twinkling Little Eyes is a not-for-profit body, with out-reach programs aiming to redress the suffering of low income groups, marginalized population living in rural and urban slums and tribal areas in Maharashtra through free eye camps and free eye treatment. The foundation is committed to eradicate the needless and avoidable blindness in society through better access to eye care and quality care treatment. It also spreads awareness about various diseases among general public and medical fraternity. Mumbai Smiles collaborates with Aditya Jyot Hospital for it’s various initiatives in eye care

The camp started at 9 a.m. and went on till 2 p.m. 5 doctors were present for eye checkup. People from Phule Nagar community participated in the event. A banner conveying all the information about the camp was put on display a day before the event. In addition to this, 6 teachers and assistants of Powai Balwadi undertook door to door campaigning to inform the community members about the event. Initially, the details of each and every candidate viz. name, age, address etc. were taken. Post registration, a blood and eye checkup of the participant was carried out. Balwadi teachers and assistants coordinated the various activities at the event.

A total of 67 diabetic patients were screened for eye checkup. Out of these 67, 20 were detected with cataract for whom the requisite treatment will be carried out in Dharavi, Mumbai.
