International Day for Eradication of Poverty : Barcelona Campaign

It was in 1987 when in Paris more than 100,000 people took to the streets to demonstrate that poverty is a violation of Human Rights. Later in 1992 the United Nations made this official recognition of October 17.

This year, we remember the work for 365 days a year done by Mumbai Smiles and by many other organizations and institutions for this purpose. We remember that poverty is becoming more extensive and chronic with inequalities and cause and consequence of the global crisis which we live in. It is essential on a day like this to remember that poverty is avoidable and that the defense of human rights must be universal. Therefore, participate in different actions: Barcelona Campaign : Poverty is preventable. Against inequality: social justice! On this day more than 4,200 institutions participated in a public event at 10:30 reporting to the central post office in Via Laietana. On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, October 17, people gathered at the Centro Comercial La Rosaleda in Malaga at 19:30 or 20:00 to see the events unfold! Let us all participate in the peaceful struggle against poverty!
