Recently, The Bihar government has approved a plan to spend Rs 220 crore for providing sanitary napkins to adolescent school girls. The plan will help in better academic, mental and personal development of adolescent girls in schools. The move comes after the highly successful bicycle program launched by former government of Bihar. Under this program, bicycles were provided to girl students, increasing their enrolment and attendance in the schools. Similarly, the former governement of Bihar had announced in February that napkins would be provided to adolescent school girls to stem the dropout rate.

By acknowledging that menstruation is a normal human process and a sign of good health, the action will help confront the stigmas attached to menstruation with collective advocacy, education and action. Menstruation is a normal biological process and a key sign of reproductive health, yet in many cultures it is still considered taboo. The continued silence around menstruation, combined with limited access to information at home and in schools, results in millions of women and girls to have very little knowledge about menstruation and how to deal with it.

It’s time to spread awareness and BREAK this TABOO to help young girls and women be more secure, healthy and happy. !!
