Women’s day celebration at Mumbai Smiles

 In Mumbai Smiles

International Women’s Day (8th March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women. This year’s UN theme was “Equality for women is progress for all”. In our earlier blog (https://www.mumbaismiles.org/english/BlogDetails.aspx?id=1012) we mentioned how our SEED project and Girl child initiative by Future Smiles team  have made differences in the socioeconomic condition of women by allowing them to be independent and by providing them financial as well as holistic support.

It was not just the women but also the girls who made this International Women’s Day meaningful for us. An event was held at our Head office in Andheri on 7th March 2014. 36 beneficiaries were present along with their parents. We celebrated the day with our Girl Child beneficiaries and in fact introduced them to a new meaning of the word “GIRL” :

    • G- Grows
    • I – Informed about situations and social reality
    • R – Responds to situations
    • L – Learns new things.

The event started from 2 pm and went on till 5 pm. It began with an inaugural session that included a welcome note from Pari and a speech by our EDI, Mr. Narendra. A small documentary film was also screened . Dr Ashima Malik then organized an open forum discussion to discuss about adolescent health and hygiene, mental /physical changes in women and nutritional importance for women. This was followed by a team building activity and finally, hygiene kits were distributed among all the beneficiaries present.

The outcome of Event was very positive. Beneficiaries and their parents were grateful to Mumbai Smiles for holding such an event and apprised that the event was very informative and useful.
