Volunteer’s Column

Listening to our Volunteers experience of working with us is always a delight. Today we have our volunteer Apoorva who shares her experience with us.

“I started volunteering in the month of October 2015 with the checkup camps for Mumbai Smiles in association with the Indian Dental Association. I was really keen to join Mumbai Smiles which since it is doing a great job and working hard for the upbringing of the underprivileged. Being a dentist, I always had the urge to improve the oral health conditions of the needy as these sections are the most vulnerable and they hardly are aware of the importance of oral health. Mumbai Smiles gave me the opportunity of conducting treatment camps for the school kids of the local area and indeed it was an awesome experience! Me along with other dental team treated around 200 patients in a period of two months over the weekends. The treatment was conducted at the office at Marol with all the portable dental units and chairs being arranged. Treatment included Fillings, Oral prophylaxis, Extractions, Fluoride application and the teaching the parents and students the importance of oral hygiene maintenance. Working with Mumbai Smiles has been a real-time public health experience for me and I am grateful to be associated with them” – Dr. Apoorva Salvi
