World AIDS Day activities

 In Mumbai Smiles

03 DEC 1

Saturday, December 1, was World AIDS Day.

Every year, this day is marked as World AIDS Day to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS around the world and encourage progress in HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment and care in high prevalence countries and around the world.

The World AIDS Day 2012 theme is: “Getting to Zero” Zero New HIV Infections, Zero Discrimination and Zero AIDS Related Deaths.”

At Mumbai Smiles too, our aim is to align ourselves with this theme and make our target zero new infections and zero AIDS deaths, for which we’ve planned a series of activities:

1) December 1, 2012: A free health check-up – in collaborations with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Limited Health Centre – for residents of the Phulenagar slums in Powai. The camp is likely to screen 200 and more individuals. Those needing any further treatment will be referred to the L&T Andheri Health centre and Vasantha Trust.

2) December 4-6, 2012: As part of World AIDS Day activities, street plays will be performed by a group of artists in identified slum locations in Marol and Powai with a message about mode of transmission, prevention and HIV testing etc, followed by Q & A session after the plays.

Mumbai Smiles always strives to improve the health outcomes and quality of life of slum dwellers, providing health awareness and education to illiterate and underprivileged individuals and provide medical attention to treat children in slums.

Spread the word about our activities and look out for further updates from us soon.
