Recently, we organised a uniform distribution program at all our Balwadis. Through this program, we wanted to motivate and encourage the children and develop a sense of association among them towards the organisation. The program involved distribution of uniforms to all the children. Each child was distributed a pair of uniform, which was sponsored by Mumbai Smiles and the parents of these children. Overall, 1460 uniforms were distributed among 730 children.

Mumbai Smiles currently runs 25 balwadis in slums located in the northern suburbs of Andheri (E), Chandivali and Powai. Each balwadi has a teacher and an assistant, who look after the children from 10 am to 1 pm on weekdays. The kids engage in formal and non-formal learning such as learning songs, alphabets, numbers, colours, names of animals, and other basics that pave the way for higher education. Many of the parents of these children are daily wage labourers, who don’t have the time and money to give the right care to these children. Thus, the balwadis are often a home away from home for these children.

Children were extremely elated to receive the pink color uniforms and demonstrated enthusiasm to wear these uniforms while coming to the Balwadis every day.
