Two-day visit organised for guest from Spain

 In Mumbai Smiles

Mumbai Similes is fortunate to be supported by a large network of donors and well-wishers, many of who are overseas. Since our sister organization, Sonrisas de Bombay, is based in Spain, we have a large number of donors and volunteers who are from Spain. It is always a pleasure to meet these philanthropists who enable us to create a greater impact through our work. We try and organize informational visits where they get to see our work in the field and meet the communities that we work with.

One such visit was organised on 9 and 10 October 2018, for Francisco Segarra, one of our donors based in Spain. The first day of the visit started off with an introduction to all the office staff. After this, Francisco was taken to our preschools in Govandi and Ghatkopar, where children of human trafficking victims study. Since these preschools are the ones where his donations are directed, Francisco was very happy to see them in action. He also interacted with some of the parents. He then visited some students and instructors of the Life Skills Empowerment module at St. Rocks School and at Savitribai Phule Girls’ College.

The second day was spent visiting our projects in Khetwadi, Grant Road and Kamathipura. We met some victims of human trafficking here as well. They expressed happiness that their children are getting educated and will have a brighter future. Our programme officer, Supriya, also informed Francisco that she will conduct counselling sessions for victims who are suffering from psychological problems as a result of their trauma. Francisco expressed his pleasure at the work that we have been doing and the impact that the visit has had on him. He was truly moved by the spirit of the beneficiaries and their optimism for a better life ahead.
