Jaume graduated in Journalism at the Universitat Ramon Llull. He also studied Cooperation to Development at the Instituto de Estudios para la Paz y la Cooperación of the Universidad de Oviedo and the United Nations Institute of Indian Studies and at the Universidad de Oviedo.
In 2013, he was selected by the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School for Strategic Management to study the course for World NGO leaders. He also studied paramedical studies for leprosy patients at the Instituto Fontilles in Alicante (Spain), and several courses on human resources, leadership and marketing at institutions like Mafoi or SP Jain Consulting Institute of Technology and Research in Mumbai.
He is also a professor at the Master of Leadership and Personal Development by the University of Barcelona. His methods of leadership and career as an entrepreneur are studied in universities and business schools such as IESE, where in 2011 the case study on Mumbai Smiles was published (currently shared with students of International MBA).
Jaume has also published several books, like Bombay Smiles, The trip that changed my life (best seller translated into eight languages with a foreword by Dominique Lapierre); The song of the concubine; The power of the smiles; and The seamstress of Dhaka. He is also the coauthor of the photographic book Bombay, beyond the smiles.
He chairs the Advisory Board of the JAL NGO against leprosy and he is member of the Board of Directors of the Corporation Valora Foundation.
He has won, among others, awards like Axuda 2007, Tierno Galvan Prize for Human Values, Film Festival of Castillay Leon, Gold Medal of the Spanish Association of European Development, godfather of the twenty-second promotion of Catalan police and Coexistence Award XIII. The Government of Spain awarded him in 2009 with the Cruz de Oficial de la Orden del Mérito Civil (Officer’s Cross of the Order of Civil Merit).
Inés has joined Mumbai Smiles with more than 7 years of experience in several non-profit organizations working in Asia and is responsible for the overall coordination and follow up of the projects implemented by Mumbai Smiles in India, the human resources management as well as the administration work in the office.
Having started her career in international rural development in East Timor, where she worked as a Project Expert for several years in the field of grass-root agricultural and rural development for different international organizations and UN agencies, she continued her as Project Coordinator and representative of an international NGO in Vietnam. Throughout all her professional career, she has been in charge of all the steps of development projects’ coordination and follow-ups, right from the identification and design of the projects, up to its final evaluations, along with an efficient management of cooperative initiatives in different sectors.
As an Agronomist holding a Masters degree in Agroecology, rural development and agribusiness, Inés has developed a passion for international cooperation initiatives, socio-economic empowerment of grass-root communities and women Rights.
Inés loves travelling; reading anything that comes to her hands and is very passionate about photography. Moreover, what she really enjoys deeply is being close to nature.
Unit Head: Human Resources
Nandita joins Mumbai Smiles with 7 years of experience in Human Resource Management with leading organizations in India in both corporate and social development sector and has worked in the domain of IT, Banking and FMCG, Recruitment firm.
Nandita’s key areas of strength lie in Recruitment & Selection, Staffing & Head Hunting, Orientation & On-Boarding, Training & Development, Performance Management, Organizational Development and Employee Engagement.
She holds a Masters in Industrial Psychology from Rajasthan University. Nandita comes from Mumbai Mobile Creches, a not for profit that works for the children of the migrants communities in Mumbai. Her diversified work experience has exposed her to various aspects of Generalist HR functions and helped her understand how HR can positively influence Human Capital in an organization.
She likes reading books on Buddhist philosophy, is passionate about Cycling and Badminton and equally enjoys trekking and traveling in her free time.
Unit Head: Partnerships
Indrani has joined Mumbai Smiles with 6 years of experience in various Not-for-Profit organizations and is responsible for raising funds for the Foundation. She has previously worked as an independent consultant for business development and resource mobilization with different grass-root organizations and social venture initiatives, including a stint with an artisan cluster in Gujarat and Rajasthan. Indrani’s key strengths lie in organizing various fund-raising activities and events.
Holding a Masters degree in Sociology from University of Pune, she has developed a keen interest in Social and Cultural Anthropology.
Indrani loves to travel and try new cuisines, along with collecting art and Indian hand-loom products.
Unit Head: Education
Sarojkumari joins Mumbai Smiles with a passion and knowledge to improve the quality of education among the underprivileged community of Mumbai. She is responsible for managing program designing, budget preparation & implementation, extending technical inputs on education team and monitoring the projects. Her experience in the field and knowledge help her to design new projects and work plans for Mumbai Smiles. She is presently assigned with an additional responsibility of the Livelihoods vertical.
Sarojkumari is a Bachelor of Social Work from Gujarat University and a Master of Social Work from Mumbai University. She also holds a Post- Graduate Diploma in Social Entrepreneurship from NMIMS, Mumbai.
She comes with a vast experience and has worked with eminent organizations like Kotak Education Foundation and Pratham InfoTech Foundation.
She enjoys socializing and fun and adventure related activities. She also loves dancing and listening to music.
Technical Advisor, Livelihood Initiatives
Mahendra Matele has joined us in the capacity of a Technical Advisor for the Livelihood Department and is responsible for the Livelihood project’s technical details, such as procurement of raw materials, production, sales & distribution etc.
After completing his Graduation in Business Administration and Diploma in Chemical Engineering, Mahendra started his career with Colgate where he looked after their day-to-day production activities. He then moved on to other prestigious FMCG and Cosmetics companies such as Trident Cosmetics, Emami, Modi Revlon among others where he gained 18 years worth of experience of complete production cycle, right from conducting market surveys to procurement, to logistics, to production, to sales & marketing and launch of new products in the market. The range of products handled by Mahendra includes Herbal medicines, skin care, oral care, baby care and hair care products and he is currently working to expand our Livelihood project in near future.
When not working, Mahendra loves to read biographies and travel to explore the interiors of India.
Prachi first started working with Mumbai Smiles as a photographer (volunteer) during our 10th anniversary year, capturing the essence of all our projects and events. With her strong background in Journalism, Production and Photography, she has now joined us as the Communication Coordinator to design, plan, implement and document effective communication strategies and is responsible for developing and maintaining close collaboration with media to enhance organization’s visibility.
Having started a string of internships right after her schooling years, she gained experience in the field of Journalism, PR, Marketing, Content Management, Web Content, Voice-overs and Translation, by the time she completed her graduation. Prachi is a Post Graduate Diploma holder in Journalism and Mass Communication from Xavier Institute of Communications and is a Masters in Hindi Literature (specialised in Journalism and Mass Communication). She began her career with Times Now as a Producer.
Prachi is extremely passionate about photography and is also a Freelance Photographer. Being equally passionate about Hindi, she is also a weekend Hindi Teacher. She loves looking at the world through her lens and is a complete foodie. Her free time is spent photo blogging, food blogging and reading storybooks.
Responsive Action & Awareness Coordinator
Natasha looks after the Responsive Action and Awareness section of Mumbai Smiles and takes care of all international visitors and donors. She provides relevant and up-to-date information about the projects and helps the visitors is the realities of Mumbai and India at large in the developmental perspective and introduces them to the work of Mumbai Smiles as a change maker in the city.
She holds a Bachelors and a Masters degree in Ancient Indian Culture (A.I.C) from St. Xavier’s College. Natasha also holds a certification of Diplomas in Spanish as a Foriegn Language (DELE) C1 level from Instituto Cervantes, Spain.
She began her career as a Spanish Language expert from the Spanish Institute of Academia de Espanol, further working in other Spanish Institutes such as Hispanic Horizons. Natasha’s role as a Spanish language expert makes it possible for her to interact and develop relations with the Spanish visitors and help in constant communication with the Spain office. She is a mediator between the two countries and helps the two cultures meet seamlessly.
Her interests are singing, playing the guitar, creative drawing and she finds her strength, courage and peace from her daily spiritual meditations.
Programme Officer, Preschool Education Project
Vikas is a Bachelors in Zoology from Mumbai University and Masters in Social Work from Pune University. He further added a Diploma in Labour Law to his academics and an MBA in HR.
His expertise reflects in unorganized slum communities, self help groups, delinquent children, HIV/Aids. He comes from Saprem NGO in Kalyan.
Program Officer, HOPE & Community Health Projects
Supriya is a Bachelors in Science and Masters in Social Work specialised in Urban, Rural Community Development.
She has worked as a social worker in various institutions as a medical social worker, with an emphasis on home care services counselling, at Mumbai’s Tata Memorial Hospital. Supriya is extremely passionate about palliative care and oncology and is the bridge between our beneficiaries and the hospital setup and handles community health camps as well.
She enjoys gardening and reading in her spare time.
Program Officer, Education Unit
Sachin is responsible for day-to-day field monitoring and logistics support of Higher Education, Girl Child Education and Life Skills Education projects to ensure the effective functioning of each project. Starting as a volunteer at a very young age, he has moved on to grow into a social work professional today.
He is a Bachelors in Social Work from the prestigious Nirmala Niketan College of Social Work as well as a Masters in Social Work from TISS (Tata Institute of Social Sciences), both degrees from Mumbai. He has earlier worked with organisations such as Pratham, Nirman and Childline Foundation. Sachin has been born and brought up in Mumbai and is very passionate about working in the development sector.
Program Officer, Maternal & Child Health and Infectious Diseases Projects
Pragati has joined us as the Program Officer of two projects, with the aim to use her experience and learning of 15 years in the development sector. Passionate about establishing developmental projects in underprivileged communities through community intervention and participation as well as awareness campaigns on social issues.
She is a Bachelors and Masters degrees holder in Social Work from Nirmala Niketan and an MBA in Human Resource Management. Before joining Mumbai Smiles, she has gained significant experience and expertise in organizations such as Save The Children India, Kotak Education Foundation and SATI in profiles pertaining to health as well as education.
When she isn’t working, she likes to spend some quiet time travelling with her family or watching movies.
Program Officer, Jump2Justice Project
Bhushan comes from a strong academic background and a 10 year work experience in the development sector, dealing with advocating and enhancing social justice in the field of health, education, child & women rights at levels of program management, training, research, monitoring and evaluation, particularly in the Indian slum and rural areas.
Holding a Masters Degree in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Bhushan has managed various leadership positions for NGOs, CSR Programmes and Academic Institutions, dealing with Human Rights issues and developmental projects at policy making and implementation level. He is highly motivated to give back to the society by working in and with the marginalized community.
Bhushan is extremely passionate about music and an accomplished Graphic Designer in his spare time.
Seema is a Bachelors in Commerce and has worked with various companies for 6 years as Office & Account Assistant. Her experience in the field brings Mumbai Smiles a reliable hand to manage the minutest of the project expenses.
Born in Mumbai, Seema is dedicated to her work and a reliable person to vouch on. She likes cooking, traveling and listening to music.
Field Coordinator, Preschool Education Project
Suresh provides logistical support to the key activities organised in the community, and facilitates interactions with the self-help groups, teachers and helpers. He is a Bachelor of Arts and is a Para Professional of Social Work.
Prior to joining Mumbai Smiles, Suresh worked with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) as a research officer where his duties included mapping, surveys and documentation. As a team leader at SPARC organisation, he supervised the toilets and slum rehabilitation research project.

Prior to joining Mumbai Smiles, Bapu worked as an administrative clerk at MSEB Co-op Credit Society.
Bapu has a Bachelors degree in Arts and enjoys listening to music in his spare time.

Having a degree in Social Work from Nirmala Niketan, Mahendra combines his theoretical knowledge with his rich experience of 16 years in working with the beneficiaries at the ground level. He was previously associated with Mumbai Moholla committee and worked with construction workers in Nirman Sanstha.
In his spare time, Mahendra likes to spend time with his friends.

Chandrakala’s association with Mumbai Smiles dates back to 2010 when she worked as a Pre School Education Centre – Balwadi teacher and has risen to the position of Field Coordinator for the same project.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees and is passionate about working with children. She used to teach History and Hindi to 8th and 9th class students prior to joining Mumbai Smiles.

Pravin has been involved in volunteer work where he offered his aid to the relief work in Uttrakhand. He is responsible for Scholarship Programmes, Life Skills Empowerment Programmes.
When he isn’t busy helping the society in whatever way he can, Pravin likes to listen to music, watch documentaries and movies.

Kalidas comes with a rich experience of working with slum communities for more than 17 years. He is excellent when it comes to community mobilization and addressing a large mass in community as he knows the pulse of the slum people very well. In the Livelihood project his role includes mobilizing people to join our courses, disseminating information about the training programs and organization in the community, identifying trainers for the courses and networking with grass-root NGOs.
Prior to joining Mumbai Smiles, Kalidas worked as a Field Coordinator at Chesire Home, an International NGO. He holds a Bachelors degree in Arts and also a Diploma degree in NGO Management.
Kalidas is a very good skit performer and script writer.

Prasad joins Mumbai smiles with 6 years of experience in the development sector having covered project implementation, networking and advocacy previously. He has worked in Tata Institute of Social Science as a counsellor for TB project, in Salaam Bombay Foundation on topics of Life Skills & Tobacco Control and has also gained experience as a primary school teacher in Kolhapur.
With a Masters degree in Social Work from Karnataka State Open University, Prasad is currently pursuing an MBA in Human Resource from Wellingkar Institute, Mumbai.
A multi-talented person, Prasad is an excellent Tabla player and proficient in drawing, calligraphy, and poetry as well.

He lives in Mumbai with his wife and two children, and speaks fluent Hindi and Marathi.
He has been born and brought up in Mumbai and is well aware of all the nooks and corners of the city, which was of great help right at the time of setting up of the organisation.
Oscar handles the maintenance and in-house errands and duties that are involved in the running of the office. He also undertakes simple administrative tasks.
A native of Mumbai, Oscar speaks fluent Hindi, Marathi and English.
Nandu’s primary role is as a driver for the various projects and for all the visitors to the project sites. He also lends his hands towards running various administrative errands, documentation and other logistical support.
He speaks fluent Hindi and Marathi, and lives in Mumbai with his wife and two kids.
