On 17th June 2014, Mumbai Smiles organized the monthly teachers and assistants meeting at its Andheri office. We organize these meetings on a monthly basis to evaluate the performance of Balwadis and to interact with our Balwadi teachers and staff to keep them motivated. The specific purpose of this meeting was:

    • To welcome and felicitate newly recruited staff

    • To have a dialogue with the teachers and assistants

    • To motivate the staff members

    • To set new menus in the food chart for children

    • To discuss performance of all the Balwadis and to provide guidelines for advancement of the Project

The meeting started with a welcome note by the Program Officer (Balwadi Project), Vikas; followed by a motivational speech by our Executive Director, India; Mr. Narendra Kumar Dundu and the Health Unit Head, Dr. Nirmal Ahuja. Vikas introduced the new staff members to all the participants of the meeting. During the interactions, specific emphasis was laid on punctuality in Balwadis, enrollment criteria for the selection of beneficiaries, food testing, fees collection, and regular cleanliness of Balwadis.

The members present included 22 teachers, 19 assistants, Mr. Narendra Kumar (EDI), Dr. Nirmal Ahuja (health unit head), Amit Dambhare (monitoring head), Vikas Gaikwad (Program Officer-Balwadi project), Mahendrakumar Zende, Bapu Bhadke, and Chandrakala Suryawanshi (field coordinators).

Mr. Narendra Kumar Dundu and Nirmal congratulated the newly appointed staff and motivated them through their speech. This has been a year of substantial development for the Balwadis too since many of the team members from within the organization were promoted to higher positions. Our Balwadis have now entered 5th year of operation. It is a matter of great pride for us that many visitors and institutions have recognized the results of our Balwadis and have come forward to support them. One such example is that of Cipla foundation, which has recently supported and funded our 2 new Balwadis at Suryanagar, Vikroli.

To appreciate the hard work of our Balwadi team members, members of five best Balwadis out of 23 were gifted a Pen as a token of appreciation.

The meeting finally concluded with vote of thanks to all the participants. Next such meeting will be held in the month of August 2014.
