 In Mumbai Smiles

09 may I

We are glad to announce the inauguration of our “Tailoring and Craft Centre” that took place on 7th May 2014. This was an initiative under our SEED project. The purpose behind opening this centre is to provide a sustainable source of income to our SEED beneficiaries. For this purpose, 60 women were trained last year, of whom 10-12 were finally selected. The selected beneficiaries will be given training in this center for a certain period of time .

Their initial assignment is to stitch uniforms for 90 Balwadi children. Post this assignment, we expect to receive orders from online stores (internationally) and other parts of Mumbai. Thus, these beneficiaries will be making products throughout the year and they will be sold internationally (Online store) as well as locally (Mumbai).

Another objective behind opening this center is to develop confidence among these women so that they become self-dependent and successful entrepreneurs later on.

The selection process consisted of 2 phases – a written exam and  a formal interview. Only those who cleared the exam were invited for the interview. During the interview, they were judged on various parameters so as to identify whether they could take up the requisite roles and responsibilities.

With the opening of this center, we wish to bring a new ray of hope in the life of our SEED beneficiaries.!!
