 In Mumbai Smiles

14 AUG I

Supriya is Field Coordinator of the HOPE Project, working with cancer children.

I am simply thrilled to receive this award, the first ever in my entire life. While appreciating my work, the award is a great encouragement for me to continue to do more for the community as well as the organization. It is truly an unforgettable moment for me. All this is thanks to Mr. Narendra Kumar (EDI), who gave me the opportunity to work for Mumbai Smiles; Dr. Nirmal (Health Unit Head) for his support and guidance; Ms. Kushala (HR & Admin Head) who is always ready with a helping hand and the project team members who helped me accomplish the HOPE Project activities.

Our HOPE Project beneficiaries – cancer children – are my life’s inspiration. They have taught me how to live, the best way to deal with stress and smile in tough situations. They are the real Heroes in my life. Their cheerful and innocent smiles energize me to do my work with enthusiasm.

I need to mention the success story of one HOPE beneficiary at this point. Ms. Sangam Pandey is 17 years old and hails from Uttar Pradesh. She was suffering from Osteosarcoma – a form of bone cancer. Her leg had to be amputated from the hip to arrest the spread of cancer. She was extremely upset after the surgery and had no will to live minus a leg. The incident was too much of a trauma for a young lady of 17. But thanks to Mumbai Smiles and Holy Spirit Hospital, Ms. Pandey has been fixed with a leg implant at no cost to her family. She is smiling once again and leading a cheerful life. Back in UP, her family is happy to receive her home, completely disease free. She is back at school, looking forward to a bright future.
