Spectacles distribution event – 30th April 2015

The eye and health care project of Mumbai Smiles provides eye/health care screening & treatment facilities to members of underprivileged communities. The project aims to increase awareness and improve access to eye/health care services. Mumbai Smiles has successfully carried out 20 camps for eye checkup in partnership with Haji Bacchu Ali Eye Hospital, Vision Foundation of India and Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital. Beneficiaries and children are screened for refractive errors, cataract and other treatable eye diseases. Post screening, patients are referred for cataract surgeries as required.
On 30th April 2015, a Spectacles Distribution Event and an Awareness meeting for cataract patients was organized at St. Rocks School, Takpada, Makwana road, Andheri E. The objective of the event was to distribute free spectacles among people with refractive errors, conduct awareness meeting for cataract patients and spread awareness about cataract surgery.
Further, the 45 beneficiaries that were recognized with refractive errors on 28th March 2015 at the Diabetic Retinopathy and Eye checkup camp were distributed free spectacles during this event.
Mr. Vilsun, trustee of St. Rock School, arranged for the accommodation. Mr. Singh, Principal of St. Rock School appreciated this camp, and inaugurated the spectacles distribution event.
After spectacles distribution, Supriya and Suresh Harke from the Eye project team conducted a meeting with Cataract patients. Through the meeting, they were able to spread awareness and counsel the patients about cataract surgery.
The beneficiaries were extremely delighted to get free spectacles on time and have further demonstrated their interest to attend similar events in future.
