At Mumbai Smiles, one of our initiatives is the Eye and Health Care project that provides eye/health care screening & treatment facilities to the members of underprivileged communities. The project aims to increase awareness and improve access to eye/health care services.

Till now, we have successfully carried out 20 camps for eye checkup and a total of 4113 general beneficiaries and 1612 children have been screened for refractive errors, cataract and other treatable eye diseases. Of the patients screened, 55 cataract surgeries have been successfully completed and 820 spectacles have been distributed among adults and children.

With the same objective, on 7th October, 2014, we organised a similar camp at Balwadi No 21 to distribute free spectacles to beneficiaries with refractive errors. The camp was organized in collaboration with Aditya Jyot Foundation.  23 beneficiaries were detected with refractive errors and eye spectacles were distributed among them free of cost. Beneficiaries were very happy to receive the glasses on time and were able to have a much clearer vision post wearing them. Cataract surgeries shall happen soon.

We will continue to organize such similar camps in future and reach out to as many beneficiaries as possible .
