A healthy pair of eyes can make all the difference between leading an average life and a highly successful one. Though defects in vision can’t be prevented, steps can certainly be taken to rectify them for better vision.
Mumbai Smiles believes in this and regularly conducts eye camps for detecting eye disorders and also for providing spectacles to correct refractive errors in eye patients. Refractive errors occur when the shape of the eye prevents light from focusing directly on the retina. The length of the eyeball (longer or shorter), changes in the shape of the cornea, or aging of the lens can cause refractive errors. One such camp was held in the Balwadi no. 23, Vikhroli on 23rd March where beneficiaries were provided with spectacles to correct their refractive errors.
Earlier on 21st Feb, the previous eye camp was held which included diabetic retinopathy and routine eye check ups for beneficiaries. The eye check up camp was held in collaboration with SAPREM and Aditya Jyot Foundation.
Through the spectacle distribution exercise on 23rd March, a total of 79 people have availed of new spectacles for their disorder. People who received the spectacles were very happy and satisfied.
It is through exercises such as these that Mumbai Smiles is helping the disadvantaged sections of society in the field of healthcare. Before this, many more events of spectacle distribution and eye check up camps have been held.
